- The planet(s) in the 7th house — their nature describes the partner's character
- The 7th lord's placement — the house it sits in describes the partner's profession and background domain
- Venus's condition — for a male native, Venus describes the wife's qualities directly
- Darakaraka — the planet with the lowest degree in the chart, used as a spouse indicator
For example, if the 7th lord sits in the 10th house (career house), the partner is likely professionally accomplished or career-focused. If it sits in the 9th (fortune and travel), the partner may come from a different culture, religious background or be well-travelled.
